'Dare to Draw’ Art Classes

Teacher: Sue Funk

Bodies in Motion (For Kids)
We will explore how to draw people realistically in proportion and in motion. Each week our characters will be in different locations (kitchen table, school room, sports field, etc.) and we will work on drawing them to look like they belong in that particular environment. You choose what “kind” of person you want to draw more comfortably - a sports figure, fashion model, teenager, etc., and bring an image of that character in a different setting each week. This way, we see each figure in motion and you choose the stance as well as the kind of person you want to excel at. My job will be to guide you towards feeling more confident and successful with each drawing you create.

Bodies in Motion (For Adults)
Any artist feels, at one time or another, the challenge of realistically drawing a body in motion. This class hopes to dispel that frustration with lessons in observing and measuring. While we know what we are looking at, the trick is in drawing what you see, not what you know. While this may be an oversimplification, with practice, you can conquer portraying those moving targets! In this class we do not work from live models. Various photos of people moving are our subject matter. This gives the student time to study and measure what body part is lining up with what other body part. Artists of all levels, including newcomers, are welcome.
